Warmth From Within
Oil on canvas, 12 x 12 inch
On a very cold, early morning in the studio, I painted ‘Warmth From Within’. The purpose of this piece was to portray my disdain for the cold at the time. The yellow ochre attempts to ground the piece acting as the warmth of my body battling with the piercing temperatures, represented in the purple marks. The swirly marks were informed by my interpretation of wind, similar to marks I’ve made in some of my ink pieces.
Instead of going straight to blue to show coldness, I wanted to be a bit less on the nose and therefore picked a warmer purple that wouldn't be too jarring next to the ochre. I feel the purple is too warm of a colour, however I don’t see myself reworking this piece as I really like the gradual blending where the two shades become one and don’t want to disrupt that.
