Oil Paintings

My current body of paintings delves into the realm of autobiographical portraiture, drawing inspiration from British painter Howard Hodgkin. In alignment with Hodgkin's approach, the paintings do not aspire to realistic depictions but rather seek to convey my own emotional entanglements with the subject or place depicted. This artistic exploration is informed by psychoanalytic theories advanced by Freud and Jung, particularly their research into intuitive art.

The utilisation of thick impasto marks and specific colour pairings attempt to evoke psychological states of perception, along with my distinct incorporation of sharper, jagged brush strokes, aiming to articulate nuanced emotional and intellectual facets inherent to my personal experiences. The work attempts to encapsulate moments of contentment, frustration, and joy within my lived experiences.

Through the deliberate application of these assertive brush strokes, this work attempts to exemplify the intricate interplay between my physical self and inner psyche, presenting the mundane as an immersion into the intangibility of thoughts, emotions, and fleeting moments.
