New Year’s Shuffle
Oil on canvas, 8 x 12 inch
This autobiographical portrait is an abstract depiction of Xander, Rob, Imogen, and I just before the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Eve. This was an experimental work that I used to push myself out of my comfort zone a bit, implementing impasto marks, thicker than I often paint with, and a colour palette that is brighter than I would usually use. Because of this, I find the colours are slightly garish but not necessarily clashing. I attempted to create harmony between them with the simplicity of the forms along with the limited colour blocked background.
