Marcie, George, and The Moon

Oil on canvas, 11.8 x 16.5 inch

This autobiographical portrait is the portrayal of a memory I shared with my friends Marcie and George; a night where we went for a late night walk to collect wood for our firepit, stopping by a stream to gaze at the moon’s reflection in the ripples. I attempted to capture the serene nature of this moment in my delicate brushstrokes, along with the differing shades of blue drawing from elements of the dark night sky’s interaction with the moonlight.
This piece went through quite a transformation as I figured out the composition and details, as I noticed it started to become a tad too literal as I painted and needed to be stripped back after a while. I’m confident, however, that the end result is an accurate portrayal of my night.
