Lover’s Deceit
Oil on canvas, 23.5 x 35.5 inch
This piece is a self portrait, representing the empty feeling I got when I was lied to by someone I was intimate with. The monochromatic colour scheme paired with the negative space intends to create a void indicative of the loss of trust that occurred in the moment.
I wanted to add a sense of frustration to the piece, leading to the etching in the foreground, which I used the wooden end of a paintbrush to create. This etching is reminiscent of my intuitive line sketches that I draw with my eyes closed.
