Girl Dinner

Oil on canvas, 11.8 x 16.5 inch

This piece is an abstract depiction of a reunion between me and my hometown best friends Imogen and Jess. We went for dinner at a restaurant in Northampton which was fairly dark and poorly lit. Because of this I felt the brown tones worked well for the background and highlighted the lighter etched figures, representing the three of us.
By depicting us as three circular shapes I attempted to present how despite changing so much over the past few years apart, we still always come back together, embracing our commonalities. The carelessly scribbled etchings in the foreground shows the trail of conversation we had as we caught up with one another and the endless dialogue.
I appreciate the simplicity of this piece as I felt the emotional elements would have been lost if I had attempted to overcomplicate it.
