Bloody Rain

Oil on canvas, 11.8 x 16.5 inch

This piece takes inspiration from a rainy day in the park. I recount my friend being annoyed exclaiming “when will the bloody rain stop?” but I found it rather calming. I combined these ideas within this piece to create a painting that attempts to highlight the positive and negative interpretations of the event.
By dripping linseed oil on top corner of the piece, I was able to create a dripping texture, inspired by Tracey Emin’s ‘Like a Cloud of Blood’, reminiscent of rain drizzling from a rooftop or tears of someone crying. I made oil sticks to achieve the smooth swirled green marks in the foreground of the piece, intertwining the serenity of rain with the rough marks underneath that encapsulate the animosity my friend had towards it.
I find this piece to be very successful as a whole and believe it is alluring to view.
