Abomination

Oil on canvas, 14 x 18 inch

I am a big fan of hiking. In the creation of this piece my intention was to encapsulate the nocturnal ambience experienced during solitary hikes through wooded landscapes at night, acknowledging the simultaneous eerie and liberating sensations inherent in such excursions.
Deliberating on the colour scheme, I aimed to construct a harmonious amalgamation of hues with little contrast, in an attempt to accentuate the prominence of the brushstrokes. Notably, the recurrent incorporation of purple in my recent works guided my palette selection. I'm not too sure why I've been gravitating towards purple but it seems to have become a staple within my work. With a palette knife I applied payne's grey to the background, subsequently employing a similar technique to blend a pale blue and burnt umber, resulting in a nuanced interplay of these hues on the canvas that I find particularly appealing.
